Petrol anthracite painted plastic housing for cancer research

At our plant in Altenrhein, we manufacture excellent plastic components that play a crucial role in the development of groundbreaking medical technologies. An outstanding example of this precision work is the COMET™ platform for automated hyperplex immunofluorescence staining of medical tissue sections from Lunaphore. The innovative analysis system makes a significant contribution to cancer research and sets new standards with its advanced technology.

The individual parts of the 3D-printed plastic housing of this high-tech device are wet-painted in our BWB paint department. To begin with, the surface of the delivered blanks is treated with filler material to smooth out any irregularities. This creates a flawless base in several sanding and smoothing steps. A special primer filler is then applied to guarantee optimum adhesion to the base material. This layer is then refined in a precise sanding process. The more carefully and precisely the base materials are prepared, the higher the quality and durability of the subsequent top coat.

The top coat itself is applied in several stages: First, a base coat is applied, followed by a matt 2K clear coat. This ensures that the highest standards of scratch resistance, haptics and visual quality are met.

A crucial step in the process is the careful degassing of the housing parts before the final drying process. During this process, the solvents contained in the paint evaporate. This not only ensures the chemical stability of the paint layer, but also prevents unwanted defects such as blistering or surface irregularities. This essential step guarantees that the painted parts not only meet the highest technical standards, but are also aesthetically perfect and have an outstanding longevity.

Through this precise and high-quality production, we ensure that the components of the COMET™ platform are not only visually impressive, but also reliably fulfill their demanding functions for many years to come.

More about Lunaphore and COMET™

Lunaphore Technologies S.A. - a Bio-Techne brand - is a Swiss company founded in 2014 with the vision of enabling spatial biology in every laboratory. The innovative company from Tolochenaz in the canton of Vaud develops automated solutions for the in-depth and rapid hyperplex analysis of tissue samples, particularly in cancer research and immuno-oncology.

COMET™ from Lunaphore is used to spatially analyze biomarker profiles in tissue samples. The platform helps to investigate and characterize biological processes in healthy and diseased tissue (such as tumors). With the underlying technology, biomarkers can be visualized in a single tissue sample, where traditionally dozens of samples were required, all in a fully automated workflow. This allows researchers to analyze the function and behavior of different cell types and groups in new detail. The parallel processing of samples saves time and results are highly accurate, enabling the identification of personalized treatment options for patients.
