Permacolor

Permacolor is a special anodized coating that permanently protects aluminium and at the same time gives it a characteristic color effect.

The blue and green tones of the Permacolor process are not produced by color pigments, but by a specific light-scattering layer structure with metal salt inclusions. The resulting color tone changes depending on the viewing angle, the position of the sun and the design of the aluminum surface. The resulting color variations give the façade a particularly lively appearance.

Permacolor color palette

Long-lasting colour depth and brilliant surfaces that retain their beauty for decades.

Architecture with Permacolor

Permacolor opens up scope for colored aluminum surfaces that vary depending on the incidence of light and perspective.
The surfaces combine durable protection with an authentic metallic character and thus create new possibilities in architectural design.

Sample order

We will be happy to send you up to four Permacolor samples. As the colour spectrum varies depending on the viewing angle, a common definition of the tolerances is essential.

Permacolor interference electrolytic

When anodising aluminium, the natural oxidation of the surface is specifically influenced to create a robust protective layer. This layer consists exclusively of the combination of oxygen and aluminum and preserves the authentic character of the base material.

The Permacolor process goes one step further: the anodic oxide layer is modified in such a way that the colour changes depending on the perspective and incidence of light due to light interference. This creates unique plays of colour and light that bring the architecture to life.

  • Layer thickness: 20-25 µm
  • Electrolytic colouring, high colour consistency and UV resistance
  • Combination of aesthetic colour effect and durable corrosion protection
  • Preservation of the metallic character of the base material

Permacolor process

Each component undergoes several precisely coordinated processes until the surface is permanently protected. The Permacolor process also achieves a brilliant and long-lasting color variation.

Structure of the anodized layer

In the Permacolor process, the pores are specifically modified. Light that hits the coating is reflected differently at the surface and at the barrier layer. This interference results in the desired, permanently lightfast color, depending on the layer thickness and process parameters.

Properties of anodized aluminium

  • Weather-resistant (protection against rain, moisture, temperature changes)
  • UV light-resistant (no fading due to sunlight)
  • Corrosion protection (durable even in aggressive environments)
  • Easy to clean (simple cleaning, hardly any maintenance required)
  • Permanently elegant appearance (remains color and gloss stable for decades)
  • Sustainable & recyclable (typical aluminum 100% recyclable)
